The Influence of the Social Determinants on Health
Why are some groups healthier than others, and how do these differences emerge and persist over a lifetime? We can get closer to answering these questions by examining the social determinants within a population. The conditions in the places we live, work, and play impact our health risks and outcomes. The social determinants of health put into focus the social, behavioral, economic, political, and structural factors that contribute to health inequities. Acknowledging the impact of these non-medical factors on health will help us to better understand the health of a population and to discover ways to reduce disparities in health to achieve health equity.

Join us for a free webinar as faculty from the University of Michigan School of Public Health explore the impact of social determinants on today’s most pressing public health issues. From challenges present in the fight against COVID-19 to viewing racism as a public health issue, we’ll discuss a variety of issues being faced in communities across the country. Join us to understand how approaching our communities and clients with social determinants in mind can improve health interventions and outcomes.

During this webinar, you will also learn about “The Influence of Social Determinants on Health” massive open online course series and how to enroll as well as resources that benefit local health departments such as the MI Safe Start Map.
